Causes of Eczema

There are so many "triggers" which cause or worsen eczema symptoms.

What Is Eczema?

By greenherbal at 2008-10-06 08:14:14
Eczema is an inflammatory condition that causes your skin to itch, dry up and become scaly. Because this condition causes much skin breakage, it makes you prone to developing many complications. One very common complication that may develop is a viral infection called herpes simplex eczema. Herpes simplex eczema is a common type of infection that spreads quickly on skin patches from the rash that the condition brings about. This can commonly be found on the face and may be very painful.

Eczema is a condition that many people contract, but it still remains a condition that most people are not familiar. If the question "what is eczema?" was posed to the bulk of the population, the response would be something along the lines of a quizzical look as opposed to a serious response. This is somewhat understandable because it is not that there has been a protracted media campaign to warn people about 'catching' eczema because eczema is mainly a benign condition that manifests in the form of a rash that is accompanied by severe itching.

Eczema or as some people call it dermatitis, is a skin condition that can strike males or females of all ages. The disease varies greatly in both the area affected and in severity. Common symptoms of mild eczema can include dry, hot and itchy skin but more severe forms of the condition can result in the skin becoming raw, broken and bleeding. Contrary to popular belief, eczema is not a contagious disease in spite of its often unsightly appearance. There is a range of treatments available for eczema but the affected areas will always be prone to inflammation in the future.

Eczema is not a single skin disease, but a group of skin problems that have the same characteristics, like irritation and inflammation. The most common type of eczema is the atopic eczema. This type of eczema is found in almost one in six children, but the majority of those children get ride of eczema in their teen years. There are cases when eczema will continue in adulthood, as well.

To treat this eczema, you may have to use steroid creams. If bacterial infection is present, antibiotics may be needed. Your doctor will prescribe the best medication. When your eczema gets cleared, you should get the veins treated. Otherwise the eczema may return. Please consult your doctor for your medical concerns. Please follow any tip given in this article only after consulting your doctor. The author is not liable for any outcome or damage resulting from information obtained from this article.

Eczema can be mild as well as very severe case. In mild cases of eczema, the skin tends to become itchy, dry and red, while in severe cases, the skin can become raw, torn and it may bleed or weep. There are inflammations in patches over the affected area of skin. This looks quite unpleasant and red. But the painful part is that the skin becomes itchy and one is compelled to scratch. But scratching would further harm and worsen the problem.

Eczema is another type of eczema that develops when you have been in contact with something that your skin does not approve of. It has similar symptoms to atopic eczema. Another type of eczema is the allergic contact eczema. Most of the people that suffer from this eczema are not born with this sensibility, but develop it in time.

Irritant contact eczema is caused by daily contact with some substances that can irritate your skin, like detergents.
